Having owned a Hallmark store in Green Bay during the eighties, I always had it in the back of my mind that at some point I’d open another gift shop.
When the City of Cudahy offered incentives for new businesses in 2010, I started looking at all the vacancies along Packard Avenue. We found our spot – and People’s Credit Union (now Landmark Credit Union) worked with us to accomplish a complete remodel of the space. It gave us large windows that provide so much light and an open, airy feeling. We signed our lease and excitedly started preparing our ideal atmosphere to create The Gift Shoppe.
My daughter, Mackenzie, was seventeen at the time and I took her with me to Chicago’s Merchandise Mart to purchase our opening inventory- and we’ve been doing it together ever since! The difference in ages proves to be a plus as we bring items into the store that attract both the young and the old! Mackenzie now manages our social media, and my son, Nathan, works with me at Cudahy. Steve, my husband, is the glue that binds it all together. He accomplishes all sorts of projects that we throw at him, from building displays to fixing, well, everything!
It has become a true “Family Business” and we love working together!!
